Camp Lemieux began in 1950 with a vision of Reverend Richard Lariviere to provide a summer camp for Catholic youth in the former Diocese of Gravelbourg. Camp Lemieux is located on the west shore of Lac Pelletier south of Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Our mission is simple: We nurture the faith of youth and families through a Catholic Christian community, participation in the sacraments, and opportunities for new experiences in an outdoor setting. Our program offer a balance of fun, recreation, life skills and faith teachings. Campers are challenged to worship and love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and strength.
Our legacy of serving many generations of families and youth at Camp Lemieux started as a vision that lead us to our humble beginnings as a Catholic Camp. A Vision that continued to unfold and expand to become the camp we continue to enjoy and have today. At it's best, Camp Lemieux was home to well over 500 campers per summer! It became the go to place for all young Catholic boys and girls where many of us made new friends from other communities, created great memories and for some, Camp Lemieux was where they met their future spouse! A home away from home where we had the opportunity to learn to canoe, swim, play games, enjoy campfires and so much more while also growing in our faith, increasing our responsibilities and learning to become the leaders and community members we are today!
As we begin our 70th year of operation, our more recent years have also been some of our most challenging. Between 2012 and 2017 registrations at Camp Lemieux consistently fell below 100 campers per summer, with an ever increasing reliance on sponsorship to attend camp. We also have an aging infrastructure that is in need of some tender love and care. In response to this need, the Camp Lemieux board made the bold decision to embarked on a journey of revitalization for Camp Lemieux and return us to our humble roots as the go to summer location and home away from home for your families. With the hiring of an Executive Director and the renewed efforts of many of you, the 2018 and 2019 camp seasons saw our camper numbers slowly grow to approximately 175-200 per summer while we began the large task of updating our programs, facilities and offerings.
Thanks to the many generous donations we received in 2019, we were able to start with the following:
